Textbooks, Pedagogical Ideas, and the Imagination of the Citizen and the State in the Chilean Classroom (Now and Then) Tuesday 9-10am Location: GDH 271 Presentation 1: Reading in the Chilean public school and the construction of the Nation-State: Sarmiento’s and Matte’s textbooks (1842-1920). Presenter: Rodrigo Mayorga (Ph. D. Student in Anthropology and Education) Description: This presentation analyses how Chilean public schools taught to read between 1840 and 1920.

The workshop provides an opportunity to explore and discuss different models of mentoring support within educational leadership.

Gendered Journeys: Formula of 3 S's (Struggles, Strengths and Support) Fri 9-10:30am Location: HM 148 Presenter: Anastasiya Tsoy Description: Immigrants face struggles during the migration process such as language barriers, lack of information, education illiteracy, new culture and mentality. The goal of this presentation and discussion is to further solidify a supportive plan towards collaboratively increasing knowledge and resources regarding the health and wellbeing of immigrant women.
Multicultural and Global Citizenship Education in Social Studies Textbooks in South Korea Friday 10:30-11am Location: Thorndike 157 Presenter: Yeji Kim Description: This presentation explores how social studies education in Korea has changed its goal in terms of citizenship education by analyzing the social studies textbook in Korea. This will help TC students from different cultural backgrounds to understand how multiculturalism and globalization are shaping Korean education.

Teaching Chinese with Technology Panel Friday 1-2:30pm Location: HM 150 Description: Technology has become increasingly relevant in the field of education. At the panel, three speakers will introduce innovative ways to incorporate technology into the teaching of Chinese and language in general. Event goers will have opportunities to interact with presenters and ask questions in a Q&A session.

Teachers College Taiwanese Club Movie Screening Friday 4-6pm Location: Thompson 136 Description: This film, 'The Long Goodbye (2010),' sheds light on interaction between the elderly who had dementia and their families. The purpose of this event is to promote the importance of elderly care through life education. As an event open to the public, this film screening welcomes all teachers and students who are interested in Taiwan's culture and education to attend.
